In 1991 a small church in Hampton, Virginia was faced with a pretty major crisis. The principle of their church school had just resigned and there were no other persons available to fill the slot. Although Pastor Jim Taylor already worked a full-time job in the U.S. Air Force at night, he felt that it would be possible to assist at the school during the day in order to see the school continue to function smoothly.

Little did he know that the Lord was really giving him valuable training for what would come years later! Pastor Taylor approached his pastor about helping and of course, his pastor readily accepted the offer.  There was one condition.  Pastor Taylor had to travel to Lewisville, Texas for special training in Accelerated Christian Education. So Pastor Jim and Suk traveled to Texas for a few weeks of intense training in Christian School Administration.

While in Texas, they were asked if they had ever considered going back Korea and opening a Christian School. It was a neat idea that they entertained for a while but it did not look as if that was the Lord’s will so they put the idea behind them and pressed on.

In 1993, Jim and Suk returned to Korea on assignment to Kunsan A.B. where they worked with Bill and Linda Stewart at the Haven Baptist Church for 7 years. Jim became very involved in the military ministry as well as started a church in the rural villages of Korea.

In January 2000, Jim retired from the U.S. Air Force with the assurance that God wanted them to continue ministering in Korea but he had no clear direction as to where or how. It was a big step of faith because he had no real way to stay in country. He had no idea how God would provide but he and Suk wanted to put their complete trust in him. They knew he would show them what to do when the time came.

Then in March of 2000, things began to fall together. They had many offers from people who wanted someone to teach English to their children. After a couple of months of prayer, and approximately 100 offers (none of which were sought after) it became very obvious that God wanted them to start the Lighthouse.

The biggest obstacle that they faced was financial. Naturally, it takes money to start a school but they did not even have $5000.00! Then the most providential things in the world began to happen.

A newly constructed building in the middle of the city was located and the asking price was $5000.00! At the same time, a local school changed all their furniture and asked the Lighthouse if they needed any desks! What a blessing! They were told that parents would not enroll their children in a Christian language institute! They had over 120 enrolled the first week they opened and had not even advertised yet! Now, years later, the Lord has continued to marvelously bless!

 

 

 

우리 학원은 2000년 7월에 개원 했습니다.  처음부터 우리 학원은 하나님의 놀라운축복을 받았습니다.

대부분의 영어 학원들은 소규모 학생으로 개원 한 반면, Lighthouse 영어 학원은 학생이 120명이 넘게 등록 했습니다.

어떻게 이런 놀라운 일이 일어날 수 있을까요?  우리는 하나님의 축복과 하나님이 우리에게 하신 일에 하나님께 영광과 찬양을 드립니다.

 우리는 학원을 소개하는 광고를 하지 않았고, 전화나 연락할수있는 통신수단이 없었음에도 불구하고 120명이 넘는 학생들이 등록하고자 줄을 섰었습니다. 또한 우리 학원이 직면한 가장 큰 문제는 재정 문제였습니다. 학원을 개원하는데 있어 돈이 많이 필요했지만, 우리가 가지고 있었던 재정은  5백만원이 전부였습니다. 그러나 하나님께서는 우리 학원의 부족한 모든 것들을 채워주셨습니다.

시내 중심에 새건물이 있었고, 그 건물의 전세는 5백만원이었습니다. 감사하게도 동시에 지역사회 초등학교 및 미국 부대 도서관에서 라이트하우스 학원에 가구를 공급을 받게되었습니다. 

오늘도 하나님의 놀라운 축복은 계속 되고 있습니다.
